Science News

Check out the cool boat on this page today. Then read something else available on Science Friday. You could even listen to the show. This will be a good site when school starts and you are studying science seriously.

Yet another way to review this summer

Listen to the Preamble to the Constitution a few times. I will find more things like it! Or maybe you will. Be careful when you search.

Very Cool Literature Site

http://www.online-literature.com/

Find biographies of authors, comments, entire texts of older books, poetry and more. This web site will be very useful as ONE source of information when you need to learn about an author or read a book or poem.

When writing papers about anything or anyone, you must always use more than one source. You should be able to use reference books at school and several web sites. You need to check the facts of one source against another.

I was amazed and surprised to find the entire text of one of the books I loved as a child: Kim by Rudyard Kipling. The first thing I did when I read the first page was to look up the Punjab. I found a good map at the Wikipedia.

Enjoy reading for fun or because you need to for a class.

Bartleby's

There is a wealth of information, including fiction, non-fiction and poetry at Bartleby's. Click here and search for some classical author ( someone who has written books that have been around a long time and that are still good reading) that you would like to learn about http://www.bartleby.com/ .
Sometimes you will be given a little bit of a biography and then you click to go elsewhere.

There are many entries under Ghost Stories. Here is the Fall of the House of Usher http://www.bartleby.com/166/1.html .

A good thing to try is to look up an author you read at school last year.

One more example to show you the variety: a short biography of Langston Hughes.

First web sites to try

Choose one of these pages everyday. Then select one or more activities to do every day. Everyone should spend 20 minutes per day learning something new or reviewing some school subject. Sometimes you will need to click more than once or more than twice. Then play games!

http://www.libraryspot.com/ lots of general information on here. Choose something you need to review. You will have to read a lot on each screen to determine where to click and read next. This is really a very nice site so learn something new now for next year. Do not be overwhelmed. Remember the back arrow to move back one page.

http://www.sldirectory.com/virtual.html a nice collection of materials for middle school students.

B and T select something everyday under this part http://www.sldirectory.com/studf/math.html#math and review it. Also do a worksheet.

http://dsc.discovery.com/ Read science news.

http://www.howstuffworks.com/ Look up something and find out how it works. Maybe a toilet? a digital camera?

http://news-record.com Read the local news in Greensboro

For L,T,B,L, and V

I will post some web sites here for you to try. These will help you to review what you learned last year or to prepare for the coming school year. You may use the comments to send me a message about what you learned or to just take notes for yourself. This will be fun so start today.
